Frequently asked questions

Your cerebral palsy isn’t very severe, should you still declare it?

While everyone’s condition will vary, it’s highly important that you declare your cerebral palsy fully during the quote process. Otherwise, you won’t be covered if you need emergency medical care relating to your condition while away.

You're looking for travel insurance for a child with celebral palsy?

AllClear offers quotes from a number of specialist travel insurance providers so you can look for the best travel insurance for a child with cerebral palsy. You will just need to input your child’s details and then answer the relevant questions that are asked.

How do you work out your premium for cerebral palsy travel insurance?

We calculate your premium based on the information you provide within the quote process about your medical conditions and trip details.

Simple 3 step quote process

1. Call us or click a quote button on our site

Once you are ready to start the quote process, the first step is to provide your personal details and information about your holiday plans.

Cerebral palsy travel tips

Cerebral palsy is a multifaceted condition that can affect people differently.  At AllClear we believe that everyone has the right to travel. That’s why we have put together these tips that you might want to think about when you or your loved ones are travelling with cerebral palsy.

Planning your trip

  • You might want to plan at least one month in advance to enable travelling with cerebral palsy to remain as stress-free for you as possible.
  • Selecting where you’ll go is exciting. However, remember that sitting for long periods of time may be more difficult when travelling with cerebral palsy. You also might want to consider the mobility assistance at the destination.
  • While your holiday is the perfect time to see a new place, it is also ideal for relaxing. Try not to push yourself too hard. You may not normally require wheelchair assistance at home, but you might want to consider whether you’ll use one while you’re away.

Medication and travelling with cerebral palsy

  • If you require certain medications, see your GP before going away to get enough to last you the duration of your holiday (plus extra in case of unexpected travel delays).  You should take your doctor’s advice about any routine exercises and therapies prescribed for your cerebral palsy while on your trip.

Flying and letting your airline know of any special requirements

  • Airports and airlines can offer assistance to you if your cerebral palsy limits your mobility.
  • If you require a wheelchair or motorized chair, you should let your airlines know so that they can make the necessary arrangements to help you. Opting for priority boarding as well as an accessible seat could make your flight journey stressful for you or your family.
  • If you’ll require specific meals during the flight, then notify the airline when booking your ticket. The more information the airline has regarding your specific cerebral palsy requirements, then hopefully this should make your journey easier.

EHIC and your right to treatment abroad

  • When travelling within Europe, you should get an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card)* which is available free through the NHS website. This EHIC will allow you access to the same level of medical care as residents at your holiday destination. Your treatments can either be free or at a reduced cost depending on the country you are visiting.
  • However, please be aware that this is not a suitable substitute for medical travel insurance. The EHIC won’t cover your expenses if you’re brought home due to a medical emergency, for example. Be sure to always purchase comprehensive medical travel insurance to cover your cerebral palsy in addition to your EHIC.
  • *We at AllClear are aware of the recent “Brexit” and realize this may soon impact on healthcare access in European countries. For now, if you’re a resident of the UK, your EHIC benefits remain unchanged. We’ll keep you updated if and how any changes will affect you.
