Money expert Martin Lewis tells travellers to buy insurance as soon as they book their trip

Speaking on The Martin Lewis Money Show on Tuesday, 17 January 2023, Mr Lewis warned viewers that they were risking their holidays by delaying buying Travel Insurance.

The founder of the popular website MoneySavingExpert.com shared that he often receives emails from people who have had to cancel their holiday due to reasons beyond their control. As many travel companies will not provide refunds if you can’t make the trip, these holidaymakers have been left out of pocket. However, as they had yet to set up holiday cover, Mr Lewis cannot help them recover any costs.

The expert went on to advise that people should arrange Travel Insurance “ASAB” – “As Soon As you Book” to avoid being out of pocket if a medical condition forces them to cancel a trip.

The advice is so important that it was repeated on the Martin Lewis Money Show on 20 June 2023, as holidaymakers get ready for their summer holidays.

It’s a vital reminder that holiday insurance isn’t only there to help you when you’re on holiday. It is also there to cover you if you can’t travel, through no fault of your own. Please make sure you set up Travel Insurance as soon as you book your trip, and check the policy start date too.
