When buying Travel Insurance for over 65s, it’s important to declare all pre-existing medical conditions. A pre-existing medical condition is any condition you have;
Been diagnosed with in the last two years.
Had a follow-up appointment in the last two years.
Taken prescribed medication in the last two years.
Examples of pre-existing medical conditions include:
High Blood Pressure
To declare your pre-existing medical conditions, call our specialist experts to help guide you or complete our medical screening process online.
It’s a fact of getting older that some things, like Travel Insurance, will cost more money. This is because there is a higher risk of claims being needed for older travellers. As such you should expect to pay more for your Travel Insurance once you turn 65.
Your insurance premiums are calculated based on a number of different factors, including your age and any pre-existing medical conditions you have.
Pre-existing medical conditions: As your medical cover is based on pre existing conditions, this can impact the cost of cover.
Your destination: Some places carry a greater risk of you needing to claim, or simply a more expensive health care system.
Activities: While we cover some activities as standard, you will need to pay an additional premium to take part in others.
Trip length: The long you’re away, the greater the odds of a claim, and hence, the higher the policy premium.
Additional cover: You may want to include extra cover for a special type of holiday, such as a cruise or golfing holiday.
Medical cover: AllClear policies include emergency medical cover, as well as medical costs for existing conditions. This includes prescription medication, medical emergencies and medical equipment.
Repatriation: Our Travel Insurance policies also cover for the costs of bringing you home, if medically necessary.
Lost luggage: We provide cover for stolen belongings, lost items and damaged valuables.
Cancellation cover: You can claim back costs if you are unable to go on your holiday for accepted reasons beyond your control.
Travel disruption: If you need alternative transport or accommodation when your travel plans are disrupted, we’re there to help.
Any medical condition you don’t tell us about: We cannot provide cover for health issues you don’t tell us about when you buy your cover.
Airline strikes: In the event of these, you would need to contact the airline directly.
High-risk activities: Some activities are not covered on our standard policies, but we can include cover for an additional premium.
Accidents caused by drink or drugs: You must be responsible for your own safety on holiday, so we cannot consider claims if you are under the influence of drugs or excessive alcohol.
Travelling against FCDO advice: No cover is available if you travel against the advice for the FCDO.
Disinclination to travel: We do not provide any cover if you are able to travel buy decide not to.
For full details of what is covered, please see our policy documents.
UK – Our UK policies cover you while on holiday in the UK. Please note cover for medical expenses does not apply for UK trips.
Europe – Get cover for any country in Europe, as well as Egypt, Morocco & Tunisia.

Quick efficient service. All done very easily over the phone. Really good value for someone with underlying conditions and over 65.Payment made over the phone and policy emailed to me straight after, just as well as I travel very early tomorrow morning. Have used AllClear for my last couple of holidays and will continue to use them. Great service, great price and all very well explained to you during the telephone call. Well done.

While our policies have no upper age limits, they do cost more for travellers over 65. This is to cover the increases costs of claims, including prescription medication, emergency medical cover and other factors which impact the costs and likelihood of claims.
We would recommend the type of policy depending on the type of holiday you’re planning and how often you plan to travel.
An Annual Multi-trip Travel Insurance policy is often best if you enjoy frequent travel. If you’re planning on multiple trips throughout the year, this type of policy can be better value.
Single trip Travel Insurance is best if you are only looking at one trip for the whole year.
Cruise Travel Insurance is essential if you’re planning a cruise. This type of policy includes standard benefits and cruise specific benefits.
An Annual Multi-trip policy, will allow you to take any number of trips during the year, within your chosen region of cover. Our single trip policies can cover a one off trip for up to 365 days.
We will be happy to update your details if something has changed with your medical conditions since you bought your over 65s Holiday Insurance. Just get in touch with our Customer Care Team online or over the phone.
