Planning and protecting your holiday abroad

Things to know before you go:
  • Remember to check the latest travel advice from the FCDO for your destination. You will have no cover if you choose to travel against FCDO advice, unless that advice relates specifically to Covid-19 (check our Covid FAQs  for more details)
  • Check any entry requirements and quarantine requirements for your chosen destination
  • Choose a Travel Insurance policy that includes Covid-19 Cover
  • For information on how Covid might affect your trip, visit our dedicated FAQs page

Travel Insurance with Covid cover

The number of Britons planning an overseas summer holiday has almost doubled since this time last year, rising from 34% to 64%4.

If you’re hoping to make the most of the summer season, you’ll need Travel Insurance with Covid cover. Although restrictions are reduced worldwide, it’s always best to be prepared.

Our over 85 Travel Insurance includes Superior2 rated Covid cover for FREE to help you travel safely. If you have any questions about how this cover will protect you in various scenarios, see our Covid FAQS page.

Travel Insurance for a cruise

More than 1 in 3 (36%5) of those we surveyed aged 81+ are interested in having a cruise holiday. It’s a great way to visit many destinations in one holiday.

You’ll need Travel Insurance for a cruise to cover your specific needs. It covers all that offers all the benefits found on a standard policy. Additionally, it provides extra benefits to help protect against cruise specific problems.

GHIC cover for over 85s

A Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) is helpful when travelling to Europe. It’s valid in 27 countries. However, this only gives you access to the default state healthcare system within a given country. The EHIC does not replace Travel Insurance. For example, it won’t cover:

  • Needing to cancel the holiday before you go
  • Medical transport (repatriation) to get back home

Repatriation without comprehensive Travel Insurance in place can leave you with an extensive bill. The typical cost of repatriating from Europe ranges from £12,000 to £18,000. Other places around the world are even more expensive. Repatriation from the USA can be around £50,000, and in the Caribbean, around £60,000.

To protect yourself and your trip, you’ll need comprehensive over 85 Travel Insurance.
