Greece Travel Insurance by AllClear can cover unexpected medical emergencies and cancellation costs. Includes wildfire FAQs.
Travel Insurance for Greece will give you peace of mind on your getaway, knowing you’re covered for medical emergencies, repatriation and cancellation costs.
If you are adventurous, the Dodecanese offers the perfect opportunity to explore. If you enjoy sightseeing, perhaps a trip to Athens to marvel at ancient architecture will captivate you. It’s important to travel safely no matter which part of Greece you’re hoping to visit.
If you wish to travel with confidence, look for a policy that includes:
Medical expenses cover – unexpected medical expenses can be extortionate without Travel Insurance. Choose a policy that includes medical expenses cover, ensuring that you declare all pre-existing medical conditions.
Repatriation – the GHIC scheme doesn’t cover medical transport back to the UK, so you’ll need a Travel Insurance policy that includes repatriation.
Cancellation cover – if you need to self-isolate or cancel your trip due to a Covid diagnosis or pre-existing medical condition, your policy should cover any financial losses as long as it includes cancellation cover.
Personal property cover – don’t let the stress of losing luggage ruin your trip. Protect your items with personal property cover.

“Called for a quote… A single trip to Greece. Not waiting long for connection. Agent Matthew was friendly, polite and professional. Very clear re medical questions… whys and wherefores and explanations. Also, full no-nonsense explanations of cover and costs. I felt I got a first-class service and was happy to go for the policy offered at a very fair price. All good and excellent… I would definitely recommend AllClear to anyone like me… over 65 with some medical issues. Thanks, Matthew!” – Tom
This will depend on your holiday provider’s refund policy. You should contact them directly. You may only get a refund if there is official advice not to travel.
The FCDO has not warned against travelling to Europe, but you should check their latest advice before you go. You should also take precautions and drink plenty of water to stay safe.
You cannot claim under your Travel Insurance if you decide not to travel because of the heat, unless the FCDO advises against travel to your destination. Claims for cancellation will only be considered if your doctor declares you unfit to travel due to the risks associated with travelling to a destination experiencing a heatwave. Each claim will be individually assessed on a case-by-case basis.
If you’re injured or fall ill due to a wildfire or heatwave, your policy will cover you in the normal way, per policy terms and conditions. You would not be covered if you have visited an area against FCDO advice.
The main purpose of Travel Insurance is to cover the costs of emergency medical treatment or repatriation if the worst happens. These costs can easily run into hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Travel Insurance can cover you if you need to cancel or cut short your holiday, but this is only under particular circumstances, not because of a disinclination to travel.
You could be covered for cancellation if you are in receipt of a signed medical exemption certificate from a medical practitioner advising you not to travel as you are deemed to be a significant risk due to your existing medical conditions. In the event of making a claim for cancellation in these circumstances, each case will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
You cannot claim under your policy if you personally decide not to travel because you are worried about wildfires.
Travel Insurance can cover you if advice from the FCDO changes after you’ve booked your trip or purchased your policy and it’s no longer considered safe to travel to the destination.
If the FCDO advise against travel to a destination as a result of a wildfire, and you choose to travel against this advice, there is no cover under any section of your AllClear policy.
If your flight or accommodation is cancelled, you should first speak to your airline, accommodation provider or tour operator to seek refunds or replacement flights. Any bookings made through a credit card may also have recoverable costs. If your policy includes travel disruption, you are covered if you have to cut short or cancel your holiday due to the ongoing wildfires.
You will need to contact your holiday provider in the first instance. If they cannot provide a refund or alternative accommodation/flights, and you cannot recover your costs elsewhere, you may need to log a claim with your travel insurance provider.
If you are an AllClear policy holder you will need to have travel disruption cover in place. If you wish to return home earlier than planned, you will need approval from our 24h emergency assistance team in order for claims to be considered. Claims for cancellation will be considered if the FCDO advice changes and they advise to not travel to the affected country.
In order to ensure you are covered for events such as wildfires, you would need a policy which includes our optional travel disruption cover. This can be added to any AllClear Travel Insurance policy and includes up to £1,000 for delayed or missed departure and accommodation expenses. You would be covered:
If your flight is delayed due to the wildfires for over 12 hours, we can consider claims for you abandoning your trip. For this cover to apply, the fires would need to be an unknown event at the time of you purchasing the policy or booking the trip. For more information please see our Greek wildfire guide.
