Lung Cancer Travel Insurance can provide cover if you’re living with lung cancer or are in remission and want to travel with confidence. Specialist policies are designed to consider your condition, subject to medical screening and acceptance, so you’re protected if you need emergency medical treatment abroad.
Medical emergencies overseas can be complex and costly. Having the right Travel Insurance in place can help protect you against unexpected medical bills, repatriation costs and disruption to your trip.
Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK, accounting for around 13% of all new cancer cases. We understand that finding Travel Insurance with a serious medical condition can feel challenging. That’s why we specialise in Medical Travel Insurance for people with pre-existing medical conditions.
Since 2000, we’ve helped millions of travellers explore the world, and we consider over 1,300 medical conditions. If you’re living with lung cancer, this guide explains how specialist Lung Cancer Travel Insurance works and what it can include, so you can travel with reassurance and peace of mind.
Why choose specialist lung cancer Travel Insurance?
Lung cancer can bring additional risks and uncertainties when travelling, particularly if you’re undergoing treatment, managing side effects such as breathlessness or fatigue, or attending regular follow-up appointments. Standard Travel Insurance policies may exclude pre-existing medical conditions or limit cancer-related claims.
Specialist Lung Cancer Travel Insurance is designed to properly consider your diagnosis and treatment history, subject to medical screening and acceptance.
Here’s why choosing a specialist matters:
-
Condition-specific assessment – Your lung cancer, stage, treatment and overall health are assessed individually rather than automatically excluded
-
Emergency medical expenses and repatriation – Policies can include unlimited medical expenses and repatriation, depending on the level of cover selected
-
Cancellation protection – If your health changes before you travel, cancellation cover may apply in line with your policy terms
-
Medication and oxygen equipment – Essential medication and medical equipment can be protected if lost or stolen, subject to policy wording
-
24/7 emergency assistance – Immediate support if you need medical help abroad
We specialise in Medical Travel Insurance and consider over 1,300 medical conditions. That experience means we understand the complexities of lung cancer and how important it is to have the right protection in place.
Travel with confidence, knowing your condition has been properly protected.

What our Customers Say
Helpful and empathetic
“Tristain was super helpful and understanding whilst getting my quote. It was a sensitive one as my husband has stage 4 lung cancer but he dealt with it confidently, empathetically and ensured we’d double checked and covered everything we needed too. I’m over the moon that I could find a reasonably priced insurance that enables us a family to go on holiday together. Thank you.”
Tips for travelling with lung cancer
Choosing your destination
- You might want to steer clear of going to cities where there is significant air pollution. According to Cancer Research UK, environmental tobacco smoke, ionising radiation, air pollution and diesel engine exhaust cause lung cancer.
- It is always a good idea to check whether the country you are visiting has any restrictions in place on the drugs you are using. Particularly if you are taking strong painkillers, you should check whether you need a licence to take them abroad.
- Travel agents may be able to discuss practical issues, such as the distance between your hotel’s front of house and the room, and can suggest hotels that are on level ground.
Speak to your doctor and airline
- Before flying, discuss with them whether you are fit enough to do so. Due to changes in cabin pressure, the amount of oxygen available is reduced at high altitudes. Any reduction in the ability to oxygenate the blood can further exacerbate poor lung performance. Your doctor may advise you to carry an additional oxygen tank on board. If so, you will need to speak to the airline before you book your flights to see if they will allow it.
- If your doctor has prescribed you inhalers. Check with your airline if you can carry them in your hand luggage.
- If your mobility is restricted, seek assistance from your airline to help you get from check-in to the gate.
- If you’ve had chemotherapy and radiotherapy, it can leave you feeling fatigued, so seek your doctor’s advice on how to manage this on holiday.
- After having radiotherapy, your skin may be more sensitive to the sun. Be careful of direct sunlight when in hot countries. Ask your doctor if you are not at risk of any region-specific disease before booking your trip. You may be at a greater risk of infection when taking certain cancer drugs.
