If you’re heading off to an all-inclusive resort this summer, we’ve got plenty of tips to help you keep costs down, as the peak summer holiday season approaches. If you’re looking to for advice about saving money on your holidays, be sure to read out FREE budgeting guides.

BBC News has reported that some resorts have seen prices rise by over 20% in popular destinations such as Crete and Majorca.

What can you do to beat the price rises?

It may no longer benefit you to wait for last-minute bargains, as prices are expected to stay high during the peak summer season.

  • Travel off-season. The best way to avoid paying more for your holiday is to travel outside the busy period. As well as saving money, you’ll often avoid the larger crowds and get to see more of your chosen destination.
  • Be flexible with when you travel. Flying midweek can help you save on flight costs and could decrease the cost of your all-inclusive getaway.
  • Pick your destination carefully. You can save money by visiting a less popular city or resort, especially if you choose a country where the pound is stronger than the local currency.
  • Check if all-inclusive is right for you. Before committing to an all-inclusive holiday, check local costs for food, drink and transport. You may find it’s cheaper to go half-board or self-catering.

Where can you go for cheaper trips?

Luckily there are plenty of fantastic European destinations where prices have remained relatively low.

Croatia

Croatia has seen a rise in tourists over the last few years. It has great weather, dozens of islands to explore and is easily accessible. The country may be small, but there is lots to see and do, and the landscape is hugely varied.

Hungary

Hungary offers the luxury you’d expect from a trip to most European destinations, but at a better price. The capital, Budapest, is just as beautiful as Paris or Berlin and can be enjoyed on sunset cruises along the River Danube. The Hungarian countryside is also well worth exploring.

Malta

If you love to spend your holiday on the beach, this tiny island in the Mediterranean is an excellent choice. While the coastline of the main island of Malta can be a little costly, Gozo is chock full of stunning hidden beaches, coves and unspoilt nature, and is cheaper too.
