Before booking or planning your trip it is advised that you check the latest travel updates for Kenya from the FCDO. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions locally and globally change frequently.

Emergency Number

999 is the number used for the Kenyan emergency services, it is free to phone, the number will take you to an operator who will then be able to direct your call to the ambulance, fire and EMS services as required.

Visa & Entry Requirements

Before going on holiday to Kenya you will need a visa. You will not be able to depart nor enter without one. You can apply for single entry and transit visas on Kenya’s e-visas website.

Language

Kenya is a multilingual country. It has not one but two official languages which are widely spoken throughout – these include English and Swahili. However, you may also hear other African languages frequently spoken while you are visiting.

Currency

The Kenyan shilling is the official currency of Kenya. It remains one of the most stable currencies in east Africa. The U.S Dollar is also widely accepted, especially for activities such as safaris and hot air balloon rides. ATMs are available in the majority of the main towns – however it is advised you take some cash with you especially if you are travelling to remote villages.

Driving
