Why do you need UK travel insurance?
Even when you’re taking a break in your own country, many of the holiday risks are the same. Things can sometimes go wrong on holiday in the UK, just as they do abroad, and you could face unexpected costs. A UK travel insurance policy means you can travel with confidence in the UK.
Most importantly, you’ll be covered if you have to cancel or cut short your holiday due to a medical emergency, as long as you’ve got pre-booked accommodation.
With an AllClear policy, you’re also covered if you need to cancel your holiday because you have contracted Covid-19 or need to quarantine. In fact, 40% of customers surveyed said travel insurance is more important to them since the pandemic.
When you’re actually on your holiday, any medical treatment you need in the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) will be covered by the NHS.
So, the key things to look out for in a staycation policy are:
- Cover for trip cancellation if you, or a member of your travelling party, catch Covid-19 before travelling
- Curtailment, for example, if you catch Covid-19 and need to come home early or isolate
- Cover for personal possessions
UK holidays are allowed again since 12th April 2021 – now more than ever is the perfect time to holiday within the UK.
Travel insurance for the Isle of Man & Channel Islands
While travelling in the UK you’ll be eligible for NHS treatment for medical emergencies. Reciprocal Healthcare Agreements are in place between the UK and the Channel Islands (except for Guernsey) and Isle of Man.
This means that if you need emergency medical treatment while you’re on holiday in these destinations, you will receive similar treatment to that provided by the NHS. You can, however, submit a claim on your AllClear policy for emergency medical expenses that are not covered under the reciprocal arrangements.
As there is no Reciprocal Healthcare Agreement between the UK and Guernsey, if you’re travelling to Guernsey, we’ll cover your emergency medical expenses up to £15 Million.
What about any Government travel restrictions for the UK?
No travel insurance policies are currently offering cancellation cover as a result of changes to government advice due to Covid-19.
Therefore, you should consider booking your staycation with a provider that offers flexible cancellation terms and conditions, such as free cancellation up until 24 hours before arrival, or a guarantee that the holiday can be moved at no extra cost if the trip can’t go ahead due to Government restrictions.

Planning a UK golf trip?
The UK is the ‘home of golf’ and hosts a list of world-famous courses. Consider a specialist travel insurance policy that covers your clubs, celebratory hole-in-one drinks and course fees.
Going on a UK-only cruise (in UK waters only)?
Providing you have comprehensive AllClear branded travel insurance that includes cruise cover, then you’ll be covered if you have a medical emergency on board and need to be evacuated off ship. This includes medical emergencies resulting from any pre-existing medical conditions you have declared or COVID related illness.
However, you will not be covered for any medical consultations or prescriptions provided by the on-board doctor.
Should you declare your pre-existing medical conditions on your travel insurance?
When you’re on holiday in the UK, you’ll want to enjoy your trip, confident that you’re covered by your travel insurance if you have a medical emergency.
You can declare your medical condition through our online medical screening process. This is a simple set of questions for us to understand how your medical conditions affect you.
It’s important that you declare all pre-existing conditions on your policy. If you don’t disclose any pre-existing medical conditions, this may affect the validity of your policy if you need to claim.
Does the GHIC card cover you in the UK?
You do not need a GHIC when travelling within the UK, as it covers only local medical expenses in EU countries.

What our customers say
I have been with AllClear Travel for a few years now, having the peace of mind that they will provide insurance for me in spite of my chronic health problems means I have the confidence to travel like anyone else. My renewal this year was made so much easier by speaking with Callum, having someone who could clearly answer all of my questions and could bring a sense of humour to what is usually a dry process was very appreciated.

What if you don’t have pre-booked accommodation for the UK?
You must have pre-booked accommodation for us to be able to give you the insurance you need for your UK holidays! We’d love to be able to insure you for visits to family and friends, but you must have a hotel or some kind of pre-booked arrangement for us to be able to cover you.
When does the cover begin?
Full benefits begin on the travel dates you have selected. However, if you have chosen a cancellation cover to be included, this cover begins as soon as you buy your policy. For this reason, it’s important to buy your travel insurance as early as possible – or as soon as you have your trip booked. You can book a single trip policy up to 12 months before your holiday.
What is the age limit on UK Travel Insurance policy?
We’re pleased to say our AllClear Gold and Gold Plus policies have no age limits. You’ll only be shown quotes that can cover your age category during your quote.
What’s the maximum trip length on a single trip UK travel insurance policy?
The max duration covered per single trip taken within the UK is up to 31 days.
Is it best to buy a single or an annual multi-trip policy?
It depends on how often you intend to travel during the next 12 months. If you’re going on holiday multiple times throughout the year, an annual multi-trip policy could work out better value for you.
With an annual multi-trip policy you can travel as many times as you like throughout the period of your insurance cover. There are, however, limits on the number of days you can be away for any one trip; which for some providers also depends upon your age.
