Comprehensive cover when travelling to Ibiza
Ibiza is an island suited to those of all ages. Despite its reputation, the island has a relaxed and tranquil side to it. Its scenic beauty captures the hearts of thousands of Brits year upon year. From the ‘Old Town’ to the harbours, the island offers a range of activities from fishing to cocktails bars to historic sites.
What should a travel insurance policy for Ibiza cover?
There are various travel insurance policies on the market. When making your choice, look for comprehensive cover that includes the following:
Emergency medical expenses – cover for unforeseen circumstances while you’re away. To make sure you’re fully covered, you must declare all pre-existing medical conditions.
Repatriation to the UK – it’s vital to include repatriation (medical transport) back to the UK in your policy. Without this cover, you could face an extensive bill.
Cancellation and curtailment – cover for cancellation or cutting short your holiday.
Baggage and personal property – if your bags or personal property get lost, damaged or stolen while you’re away.

Do you still need travel insurance when travelling to Europe if you have GHIC?
You cannot rely solely on your Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) for any emergency medical claims.
It will provide you with access to the same level of medical care as residents of the participating country but is not a substitute for travel insurance. It does not provide cover for all circumstances, such as repatriation costs.
Once your current EHIC card has expired, you’ll need to request a GHIC online via the official website.
