Will you be covered if you’re travelling during the COVID-19 pandemic?

There are three things to check so that you can make sure you're covered:

  • You must be fit to travel
  • The FCDO must NOT have advised against travel to your destination - check the FCDO travel advice
  • You must follow the local government advice for your destination, checking and following their guidelines and entry requirements

You can then be covered for emergency medical expenses and cancellation for a positive diagnosis of COVID-19, with AllClear travel insurance with enhanced Coronavirus cover. Existing policyholders should read our Frequently Asked Questions if your trip is affected by Covid-19.

Explaining the Cruise Specific Cover

  • Missed port departure:
If you are stuck in motorway traffic due to an accident occurring ahead of you or your scheduled public transport has not arrived in time, you may miss your scheduled port departure due to no fault of your own. We understand that this sort of thing can happen. Our specialist cruise travel insurance policies can cover you for accommodation and travel expenses that you may incur in order to reach your cruise ship at its next docking port, allowing you to ‘catch up’ with your cruise

  • Cabin confinement:
If you fall ill whilst cruising, you may be ordered by the ship’s medical officer to stay confined to your cabin until the illness has passed, in order to prevent the virus from spreading to other passengers or crew members. By purchasing cruise travel insurance, you can receive compensation for each 24 hour period that you are confined to your cabin

  • Unused excursions:
Being confined to the four walls of your stateroom can be frustrating and may lead to you missing out on pre-booked excursions. Cruise specific travel insurance can offer reimbursement in the event that you are unable to use any pre-booked excursions as a direct result of being confined to your own cabin due to an accident or illness

  • Itinerary change:
You may miss or need to cancel a port departure due to adverse weather or time table restrictions. Not to worry. We will pay up to £500 (up to £100 per port) for each missed port

  • Cruise interruption:
Falling temporarily ill whilst on your trip is everyone’s worst nightmare, but with thousands of passengers sharing a relatively confined space, illnesses are likely to spread. If you require hospital treatment on dry land, cruise travel insurance can offer you cover for the expenses incurred in order for you to re-join your cruise

Do You Offer Both Single and Annual Multi-Trip Policies?

Yes, AllClear offers both single and annual multi-trip policies for cruises

How Could Annual Multi-trip Cover Save You Money on your Cruise Travel Insurance?

If you are likely to be booking more than one holiday a year, you can save money and travel more with annual multi-trip cruise travel insurance. Annual multi-trip cover lets you travel up to as many times as you like in 12 months, with the same level of extensive benefits as a single trip. You can also use this annual multi-trip policy for non-cruise holidays. Plus, if there are a number of people on your policy, you can still all travel!

Why Do You Need Specialist Cruise Travel Insurance?

A cruise can be a unique holiday, specialist cruise travel insurance covers you for the specific cruise-related events that may occur, and that a standard policy may not include.

Specialist cruise travel insurance can include the following cover:

  • Cabin confinement (being confined to your cabin due to illness)
  • Unused excursions (as a result of cabin confinement)
  • Missed port departure
  • Itinerary change
  • Additional cancellation cover

Please refer to your specific policy wording for full details of the cover available.

Do Cruise Travel Insurance Policies Cover Land Holidays?

Yes, cruise policies cover both land and cruising holidays. If you’re not going on a cruise, but are looking for increased cancellation cover, you still might wish to opt for AllClear Gold and AllClear Platinum, where you can increase cancellation cover up to £25K per person.

Does AllClear Cruise Cover Port Visits Cancelled Due to Bad Weather?

As we provide specialist cruise travel insurance, we understand that these are specific problems that can arise. That is why AllClear Cruise travel insurance offers compensation if scheduled port visits are cancelled due to adverse weather or timetable restrictions. Please refer to your specific policy wording for details.

Why Do You Need Cover for Your Pre-Existing Medical Conditions?

It is important to declare all pre-existing medical conditions on your travel insurance policy in order to make sure that you are covered for the condition.

If you should require medical assistance on your cruise, without comprehensive cover which includes your pre-existing condition, it could be a very costly experience.

Did you know around 52% of all claim costs are for medical expenses? On average a British holidaymaker needs emergency medical treatment abroad every 3 minutes.

You Have an EHIC, Do You Still Need Specialist Cruise Travel Insurance?

Yes you will still require cruise travel insurance. The EHIC card will ensure you are entitled to the same level of treatment as a citizen of that country.

However, it does not cover cancellation or curtailment and will not cover private medical costs if you are taken to a private hospital. It also does not cover medical evacuation costs or provide repatriation cover if you need to be returned to the UK.

You Have Spent a Lot of Money on Your Cruise, What If You Have to Cancel It?

At AllClear, we understand the time and money you put into planning your cruise. You tend to plan for your cruise a long time in advance, choosing your destination and the ship that will best suit you.

That is why we offer additional cancellation cover, meaning that you can look forward to your cruise with complete peace of mind. Please refer to your specific policy wording for details.

You’ve Got a Medical Condition but the Rest of the Family Does Not. Should They Get Cruise Travel Insurance Elsewhere?

AllClear recommends that all family members travelling together on the same cruise be covered under the same travel insurance policy. This ensures that they will be covered should any member of the family need to cancel or curtail their trip.

Will You Need a Medical Certificate?

We very rarely ask for a medical certificate. We rely on you answering the medical questions accurately – we do not cover claims for any existing medical problem which you have not told us about.
