Why Long Stay Travel Insurance?
Long stay travel insurance is cover for a holiday where you’ll be travelling for any period up to 12 months and wish to travel with peace of mind. This type of insurance covers you for medical emergencies, which is vital to prevent unexpected medical bills and give you the support you need if you have any medical problems while you are away.
Sometimes a one or two-week holiday just isn’t enough! If you need time to take in the sights or soak up the sun, consider long stay travel insurance.
Read our helpful guide below to know what to look for in a long stay policy.
What is Long Stay Travel Insurance?
Long stay travel insurance is cover for a holiday where you’ll be travelling for any period up to 12 months. A quote for long term cover works the same way as single-trip travel insurance. Once you have selected a ‘single trip’ quote, simply entering the intended departure and return date of your trip will make sure you are given options for long stay travel insurance.
If you’re planning a number of trips throughout the year and will be returning home in between them, you may prefer annual multi-trip travel insurance. This policy will cover you for up to an unlimited number of trips for 12 months. However, your policy will limit the number of days you can travel on one trip to around 31-45 days, or for an additional cost, up to 60 days on AllClear Gold or Gold Plus policies.
What Does Long Stay Travel Insurance Cover?
A long stay policy can provide the same comprehensive cover benefits as shorter trips.
- Medical expenses covered up to £15,000,000
- Cover for up to 12 months
- Personal belongings covered up to £3,000
- £5,000 cancellation and curtailment cover
- All ages. All conditions.
All figures are per person, per trip.

Additional Cover to Consider
If you are going on a longer trip, the chances are there may be additional events you could need covered. Consider your options below!
Have you booked flights and accommodation separately?
If so, your holiday will most likely not be ABTA or ATOL protected.
Some travel insurance companies offer protection for airline or end supplier failure. This cover is becoming even more important in recent years due to the increasing number of companies going bust. On AllClear branded policies, this cover is offered as standard. Please note other providers may offer this kind of cover with an additional charge.
Are you having an active holiday?
With more time comes more activities! But you might also be surprised with how many activities we could cover free of charge. Including surfing, water skiing and windsurfing on AllClear Gold and Gold Plus policies. We also offer extra cover for Golf and Winter Sports for an additional premium.
If it’s a long stay, it’s unlikely you will want to leave your mobile at home. We also wouldn’t blame you for wanting to take your fancy camera on holiday too! That’s why more and more travel insurance providers are offering gadget cover.
Gadget cover can cover loss or theft of your camera, mobile phone, tablets and laptops and is an optional as an add-on to your policy. It’s important to remember that standard baggage cover often does not include any of your gadgets.
To give you an idea of what gadget cover can offer, AllClear you can cover up to 7 gadgets – with a maximum claim value of £3000.
