How much does Travel Insurance cost for those over 65s?

It’s a fact of getting older that some things, like Travel Insurance, will cost more money. This is because there is a higher risk of claims being needed for older travellers. As such you should expect to pay more for your Travel Insurance once you turn 65.

What influences the price of Travel Insurance for Over 65s?

Your insurance premiums are calculated based on a number of different factors, including your age and any pre-existing medical conditions you have.

  • Pre-existing medical conditions: As your medical cover is based on pre existing conditions, this can impact the cost of cover.

  • Your destination: Some places carry a greater risk of you needing to claim, or simply a more expensive health care system.

  • Activities: While we cover some activities as standard, you will need to pay an additional premium to take part in others.

  • Trip length: The long you’re away, the greater the odds of a claim, and hence, the higher the policy premium.

  • Additional cover: You may want to include extra cover for a special type of holiday, such as a cruise or golfing holiday.

What does Over 65s Travel Insurance cover?

  • What’s covered:

    • Medical cover: AllClear policies include emergency medical cover, as well as medical costs for existing conditions. This includes prescription medication, medical emergencies and medical equipment.

    • Repatriation: Our Travel Insurance policies also cover for the costs of bringing you home, if medically necessary.

    • Lost luggage: We provide cover for stolen belongings, lost items and damaged valuables.

    • Cancellation cover: You can claim back costs if you are unable to go on your holiday for accepted reasons beyond your control.

    • Travel disruption: If you need alternative transport or accommodation when your travel plans are disrupted, we’re there to help.

  • What’s not covered:

    • Any medical condition you don’t tell us about: We cannot provide cover for health issues you don’t tell us about when you buy your cover.

    • Airline strikes: In the event of these, you would need to contact the airline directly.

    • High-risk activities: Some activities are not covered on our standard policies, but we can include cover for an additional premium.

    • Accidents caused by drink or drugs: You must be responsible for your own safety on holiday, so we cannot consider claims if you are under the influence of drugs or excessive alcohol.

    • Travelling against FCDO advice: No cover is available if you travel against the advice for the FCDO.

    • Disinclination to travel: We do not provide any cover if you are able to travel buy decide not to.

For full details of what is covered, please see our policy documents.

Where can you travel with Over 65s Travel Insurance?

  • UK – Our UK policies cover you while on holiday in the UK. Please note cover for medical expenses does not apply for UK trips.

  • Europe – Get cover for any country in Europe, as well as Egypt, Morocco & Tunisia.

  • Worldwide – The world is your oyster with Worldwide cover. You can choose to include or exclude the USA, Canada and the Caribbean.

Should you still get Over 65 Travel Insurance if you have a GHIC card?
