A holiday can be a great way to treat yourself and your loved ones. Sometimes, however, a holiday is a much needed part of self-care. So what are the subtle signs that your mind and body send you to tell you to take a break and get away from it all?

You’re having trouble sleeping

According to the experts at Mind, stress can mean you struggle to get enough sleep. Whether you’re unable to drift off in the first place or you find yourself waking up at all hours, it could be your body telling you to take a break.

You’re struggling to focus

Another common sign is finding yourself gazing out of the window more than usual or making multiple minor mistakes. A little daydreaming now and then is expected, but if you’re frequently struggling to keep your attention focused on a task, it might be time to book a holiday.

You’re angrier than usual

Has your fuse gotten shorter and shorter lately? Stress can make you feel irrational and angry, even over minor things. Instead, give yourself something to look forward to, and try focusing on that when you feel yourself getting wound up.

Feeling overwhelmed

According to the NHS, the feeling that everything is getting on top of you is another indicator of stress. Going out of your way to avoid certain places and people is also something to watch.

Shutting down and cancelling plans

Withdrawing into yourself can be an easy sign to miss. But if you keep cancelling plans to see friends and family, view this as a sign to arrange some time away. Why not see if your loved ones are free and plan a group trip somewhere?

Mental health and well-being are important factors in our lives, yet they are often easy to overlook. Knowing the signs of when you need to take a step back and take some time for yourself, either alone or with loved ones, is a vital step in taking care of yourself.
