Top 5 Travel Series to Inspire You

Following the UK’s third lockdown, we’ve found ourselves once again spending more time at home. So, until travel is possible we must find other ways to discover new destinations, to be inspired by various cultures and ways of life. And thanks to technology – we can watch our way around the world through iPlayer and Netflix. So, we’re bringing you our top 5 travel series to watch.

We hope the following travel series are able to inspire you to add new locations to your 2021 travel wish list.

1. Netflix – ‘Down to Earth with Zac Effron’ (2020) 

‘Down to Earth with Zac Efron’ was released on Netflix on July 10, 2020. It follows  Zac Efron and Darin Olien as they travel to France, Puerto Rico, London, Iceland, Costa Rica, Peru, and Sardinia.  The documentary focuses on sustainable living practices around the world, nature and various cultural practices. While this is a light-hearted documentary – it brings to light how different cultures live and questions the future of our planet.

2. Netflix – ‘Somebody Feed Phil’ (2018)

This documentary series comes with a twist, instead of focusing purely on the destination – it centres on the various dishes each destination has to offer.  The documentary follows Phil Rosenthal on his culinary adventures to Bangkok, Lisbon, Mexico City and more. Viewers get to enjoy watching him sample a variety of local cuisine as he also takes in the local culture. With good food and good humour – this is a fun and enjoyable watch at any age.

3. BBC’s ‘Race Across The World’ (2020) 

Imagine travelling through many countries without being able to fly and against five other travellers in an epic race, well now you can – watch as five pairs do exactly that. However, it’s not as easy as it may appear – especially given that credit cards, access to a smartphone and the internet are banned. This is a unique and enthralling race that’s sure to captivate you from the word ‘GO’.

4. ITV’s ‘Joanna Lumley’s Hidden Caribbean: Havana to Haiti’ (2020)

She has graced our screens for many years, and in her newest show, Joanna Lumley doesn’t disappoint. Her two-part documentary ‘Joanna Lumley’s Hidden Caribbean: Havana to Haiti’ allows the viewer to tag along as she travels across Caribbean Cuba all the way to Haiti. Her cool, calm and collected demeanour throughout makes travelling across such enigmatic countries seem blissfully easy and will surely see you adding one of these amazing destinations to your travel wishlist.

5. BBC’s ‘The Travel Show’ (2020)

With 7 episodes available – there is a destination to inspire everyone. From socially distanced trips to see Santa to exploring Kazakhstan, this series offers a unique insight into destinations that you may not have previously considered before.  So, grab a cup of tea and join the team as they travel around the world showcasing the very best of travel across the globe.
